What can we learn from reading this book?
By reading this book we can gain a new angle in which we can look at life. We need to learn how to enjoy life because life's shorter than we think, and if we accept that we will all die at some point, we can look at life and realize it's importance. We can also learn to find importance in relationships rather than material things, because that will bring real meaning to our lives.

  • "Life is a series of pulls back and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn't. You take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take anything for granted. A tension of opposites, like a pull on a rubber band. And most of us live somewhere in the middle." -page 40
    • Life is full of options and factors that will pull you in a variety of directions, but it's important to find balance and live somewhere in the middle of it all.
  • "The truth is, once you learn how to die, you learn how to live." -page 82
    • When you realize how short life actually is, you gain a new appreciation for life, and when you're time is running out, you realize the important things of life.
  • "In the beginning of life, when we are infants, we need others to survive, right? And at the end of life, when you get like me, you need others to survive, right? But here's the secret: in between, we need others as well." -page 157
    • We always need to depend on people. Don't get caught up in the idea that you can do it on your own. You always need other people to support you and help you throughout your life.
  • "Don't let go too soon, but don't hang on too long." -page 162
    • Don't give up on anything to easily, but learn to let go and move on before too long.

Essential Questions:
  • What do you value most in life?
    • Personally, I find relationships extremely important. Whether I'm spending time with my family or hanging out with my friends, I find myself enjoying every moment I have, and when I'm not with the important people in my life, I'm wishing I was with them! People, along with genuine time to bond with them, are the most important thing to me.
  • Who are the people that influence you the most in your life?
    • There are a lot of people who I go to church with that play a powerful role in my life. I know they'll be there for me no matter what, and I can talk to them about anything that's bothering me and I know that they'll respond honestly. They also keep me focused on the important things in life. I also have a close-knit circle of friends at school who play a key part in my life.
  • What is life's greatest lesson?
    • Life's greatest lesson is to live in the moment, and find good in everything you experience. If you learn to treasure every moment you have, you'll live a much happier life, and if you find the good in everything you go through, you will grow into a more wise and mature individual.
